Reading... for FUN?!

Kyle has begun reading chapter books! I'm so excited at the new possibilities for him. His first book is a mini-chapter book (more appropriate for 3rd graders than 7th graders)- Kidnapped by Robert Louis Stevenson. The best thing: it's midwinter break and he's choosing to read on his own! Now, we have to encourage him to slow down when he reads so he can comprehend everything he just read.

And, on another exciting-educational-milestone he's figured out multiplication. When I explained to him to just think that "5x3" is five sets of three (five cookie sheets with three cookies each) then it made more sense to him. I did warn him he's going to have to memorize the times table in a couple of years and it can get pretty frustrating.

Nice job with the cookies on the tray. We actually teach kids the conceptual way of multiplication first (your cookie example) and then go for the tables.

Nice job - math mom!
